Why can’t they use the technology that iphone uses for find my phone? I have always wondered why we couldn’t have a device imbedded in the bike that has say a 5 year battery and an app that we could call up and find where the bike went thru GPS or some other technology. The police would apprehend more bike thieves and more stolen bikes would be recovered because of it.
The RFID is fine, but only when that part of the bike is recovered.

If someone could connect the specifics of your identity to your bike’s RFID, could they track your movement around town?

Could a parent track their teen’s location? Could the police track a person’s movements?

Yes to all. Cycling through codes a la TOTP 2FA could help ameliorate, but would be difficult to make a hardware-only solution.
