I hope that they actually notify people that have lost their bikes I had a bike of mine token from afriend of mine that I had let borrow the bike and they never notified me that they had my bike. They just took it thinking that it was stolen and never phone me and my bike is registered on the index so hopefully they actually start calling and notifying people that they have their bikes I have not been able to get ahold of the officer to get my bike back.

@rob have you reported your bike as stolen to the police and filed a report? Do the police have your bike in their unclaimed property? Have you contacted the police at all?

Yes I contacted the officer that took the bike provided him with my serial number and informed that my bike is registered on bike index which he then said that he is not releasing my bike without the original bill of sale from when I bought the bike well I bought the bike over 2 years ago and no longer have the bill of sale and I thought the whole purpose of bike index was that if you register and you can prove the bike is yours that you get your bike back but they’re refusing to even consider giving me my bike back and my bike has never been reported stolen

Registration on Bike Index is not proof of ownership. I could steal any bike, and register it as my own on Bike Index, but I would not have any proof of ownership. Anyone who claims that registration on Bike Index is proof of ownership is lying.
Can you supply any proof of ownership? A bank or credit card statement, or a reputable bike shop that is still in business which kept a record of the transaction, may be acceptable to law enforcement.
Here with the Eugene Police Department, which has its own closed bike registration system, they will not release a bike to the owner that registered the bike in their own system unless they also provide proof of ownership.

You’re approved as I have pictures of the bike in my possession since like last year and if that’s the case then they shouldn’t be taking bikes that aren’t reported stolen the whole purpose I thought was to stop theft the bikes not for them to just take bikes for the purpose of their auction
